Ready to roam the Land of the Great Steppe: Knorr-Bremse to service braking systems of Alstom locomotive fleet in Kazakhstan

  • Knorr-Bremse Russia and Alstom Kazakhstan have signed a comprehensive 25-year service agreement for up to 200 double-section freight locomotives and 95 passenger locomotives in Kazakhstan
  • The service agreement was signed in Berlin on occasion of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s visit to the German capital
  • By providing brake equipment and servicing, Knorr-Bremse will help connect major cities and serve international trade routes in the world’s ninth-largest country – bolstering faster, safer and more reliable transport of goods and passengers

Knorr-Bremse, the world’s leading manufacturer of braking systems and supplier of additional subsystems for rail and commercial vehicles, has signed a comprehensive service agreement with Alstom. Until 2051, Knorr-Bremse’s RailServices unit will maintain the brake systems of up to 200 double-section freight locomotives and 95 passenger locomotives operated by Kazakhstan’s national railway company KTZ. The collaboration will help to strengthen the 2.7 million square-kilometer Central Asian country’s burgeoning role as a cross-continental hub for rail traffic.

Modernization by Kiepe Electric: Low-floor trams on mass-transit duty in Schwerin ready for at least another 20 years

  • Following the modernization and retrofit of their electrical equipment, 30 trams are heading for another 20 years’ service

Kiepe Electric, a subsidiary of Knorr-Bremse, the global market leader for braking systems and a leading supplier of other rail and commercial vehicle subsystems, is to modernize 30 low-floor trams for Schwerin’s mass transit operator Nahverkehr Schwerin GmbH (NVS). The city’s 15-year-old fleet will undergo a retrofit of its electrical equipment and HVAC systems.

Automatic train handling: Knorr-Bremse’s NYAB subsidiary successfully trials self-operating capabilities of freight train

  • LEADER® AutoPilot™, the on-board energy management system of Knorr-Bremse’s New York Air Brake subsidiary, successfully operated a freight train from start to finish
  • The system demonstrated automatic control of throttle, dynamic brake, independent brake and air brakes, contributing to lower fuel consumption and reduced in-train forces

New York Air Brake LLC (NYAB), a North American-based subsidiary of the Knorr-Bremse Group, the global market leader for braking systems and a leading supplier of other rail and commercial vehicle subsystems, deployed its on-board energy management system, LEADER® AutoPilot™, to test the automatic driving capabilities of a freight train in Colorado, USA, at the end of August. The system managed to automatically start, accelerate, brake, and stop a heavy-haul cargo train in different terrains, helping to cut fuel use and increase efficiency.

Knorr-Bremse Rail Systems Italy to provide braking systems for 50 double-decker regional trains from Hitachi Rail

Knorr-Bremse Rail Systems Italy has signed a contract with Hitachi Rail SpA to supply braking and sanitary systems for 50 double-decker regional trains destined for Ferrovie Nord Milano. The new trains will consolidate Knorr-Bremse’s already strong presence in braking systems for Italian regional trains. This latest contract is in addition to the double-decker platform which Hitachi is manufacturing for Trenitalia, and for which Knorr-Bremse is also supplying braking and sanitary systems. Here, the framework agreement is for up to 300 trains.

Knorr-Bremse continues profitable growth in first half of 2019 and confirms full-year guidance

  • Strong growth: Revenues up 8.4% in first half of 2019 to €3,602 million—best first-half revenues in company history

New Citylink NET 2012 LRVs in Karlsruhe: Electrical competence for passenger comfort and attractive regional transport

These LRVs, which have been equipped with electrical systems from Kiepe Electric and with braking systems from Knorr-Bremse, provide reliable operation, more passenger comfort and comfortable connections into the region.

Knorr-Bremse pays dividend of EUR 1.75 per share




  • Payout ratio of approx. 45 percent of consolidated net income
  • Annual General Meeting approves actions of Executive Board and Supervisory Board by large majority
  • Good start to 2019 underscores company’s future opportunities

At today’s Annual General Meeting of Knorr-Bremse AG, shareholders approved the proposal by the Executive Board and Supervisory Board to pay a dividend of EUR 1.75 per dividend-bearing share (161,200,000 shares) for the 2018 financial year. The total dividend payout thus amounts to EUR 282 million or 45 percent of consolidated net income.
